MILFORD, CT — FCP Euro, a European auto parts company, has gotten the green light to construct a 160,000-square-foot headquarters with 20 tractor-trailer bays on the former Subway site. The Planning and Zoning Board approved a zoning change for the $20 million project by a 9-1 vote at its meeting Tuesday, The Milford Mirror reported.
The move comes after Subway announced it would be moving its headquarters to Shelton. The company was sold over the summer to Roark Capital, which owns Arby’s, Dunkin’ and Buffalo Wild Wings.
The proposed project for the 0, 305, and 325 Sub Way properties involves constructing a 160,000-square-foot warehouse facility, office, and associated parking. As many as 210 employees would be working at the site, according to documents filed with the city.
The new building will be home to FCP Euro. The company was established in 1986 as a small brick-and-mortar auto parts store in Groton. In 2021 the business was transitioned to fully online parts sales. Their online parts catalog features over 19,000 genuine replacement parts, including Volvo, BMW, VW, Mercedes, Porsche, and Saab parts. In 2015, FCP Euro moved its headquarters to Milford.
The project's approval comes despite resident opposition to the project. Letters of concern regarding environmental impacts were filed with the city noting issues with light and noise pollution involved with heavy truck traffic along with ecosystem hazards.
Some neighbors were opposed to the project, saying that it sets a bad precedent for other similar buildings to be allowed in the area, The Milford Mirror reported. One neighbor said the board's decision was "ignoring the will of the neighborhood."
